G2E Exhibitors to scale down any parties or cancel following mass shooting
The Global Gaming Expo (G2E) will open today under a deep cloud of sadness and horror of what has happened on Sunday evening when a lone shooter 64 year old Nevada resident Stephen Paddock opened fire at a music festival from the 32nd floor of the Mandaly Bay Hotel and Casino killing at least 59 people and injuring over 500 others some with critical injuries.
Organisers of the G2E The American Gaming Association (AGA), and Reed Exhibitions said in a statement that they, “were closely monitoring the horrific events that took place in Las Vegas.”
“G2E annually welcomes 26,000 visitors… exhibitor move in continues for the show to open tomorrow [Tuesday],” said in a joint statement Geoff Freeman and Hervé Sedky, respectively president and chief executive of the American Gaming Association (AGA), and president of Reed Exhibitions Americas.
He added: “The AGA and Reed Exhibitions will be in constant contact with local and national law enforcement and our host, Las Vegas Sands. We will closely monitor the situation and safety remains our priority.”
Speaking to many exhibitors and attendees on Monday the iGaming Post found that there was chaos among both parties as to what will happen at G2E this year following the events on Sunday evening.
Several exhibitors who did not want to be named said that out of respect that they will no longer be holding any parties or hospitality during the show. “It would not feel right to have our annual party given the terrible situation.” One Exhibitor said to the iGaming Post.
As always the show will go on but from what the iGaming Post has gathered it will be a very subdued event this year.
