Genting Group Might Be The Ultimate Choice for Takeover of Wynn Resorts

Wynn Resorts rumours continue about merger

According to a report published by three analysts from the Sanford C Bernstein Global Gaming Research, the Genting Group might end up being the favorite option for acquiring the Wynn Resorts in the near future. The analysts also concluded that the Macau operations of Wynn Resorts might be the reason for a dearth of potential suitors in the market.

In the report, the analysts Cathy Huang, Zhen Gong, and Vitaly Umansky pointed out that given the fact that there are countless complexities surrounding the Wynn Resorts’ two major Integrated Resorts in Macau, there are only a few other companies that are actually financially capable of taking over the casino bigwig that currently holds a market capital of a staggering $19 billion.

The Bernstein research also outlined that any potential buyout or takeover would be required to be duly authorized by both Chinese regulators as well as the Macau government implying that any potential suitors might have a long way to go before they can acquire the Wynn Resorts. As such, the analysts believe that there might be a lot many suitors that had been shortlisted earlier which will be eventually pushed aside.

In addition to its two prominent casino operations in Las Vegas, Wynn Resorts also owns a string of casinos in Macau including a massive $4.2 billion casino property called the Wynn Palace that opened for operations on the Cotai Strip in the fall of 2016.

In the aftermath of the infamous sexual harassment scandal surrounding the Wynn Resorts’ boss Steve Wynn, the CEO of MGM Resorts Jim Murren remarked that given the fact that Wynn Resorts is a massive organization, it can be difficult to find a potential suitor that possesses the financial ability to acquire it.

Many financial analysts pointed out that Wynn resorts might be able to find a potential suitor from among the number of Chinese conglomerates as the latter can obtain the required financing from their federal government. However, according to the Bernstein analysts, such Chinese conglomerates might not want to acquire the Las Vegan properties of Wynn Resorts given the strict casino regulations in Nevada and the rest of the US.

As such, the Malaysia-based casino giant, Genting Group, might be willing to take over Wynn Resorts since it is already in the middle of developing a multibillion-dollar casino resort at the Las Vegas strip.
