Japan & South Korea lead games app revenues

According to a new report from mobile intelligence firm App Annie mobile gaming in Asia leads the way for app developers with countries such as Japan and South Korea for time spent playing gaming apps and for money spent playing them.
The new report shows that Asia is well in front and is driving the app development sector far more so that the west. The report says the Japanese players spend three times more a month playing apps than US players and over seven times more than those in the UK.
App Annie explained in the report. “This significant difference between Western and Asian markets is also reflected in the amount of time that users spent in games. Games ranked as the second highest category by time spent per Android smartphone users in Japan and South Korea in Q1 2015, behind only the Communication category.”
“In Japan, Android smartphone users spent around 4x as much time per month as users in the United States playing mobile games in Q1 2015. In contrast, Android smartphone users in Europe and the United States tended to spend more time in apps from the Social and Media & Video categories than in games.”
One amazing stat to come from the report is that in Japan and South Korea 90% of total revenues comes from game apps, while in the US it is 80% and the UK it is down to 80%. Showing how important a market Japan and South Korea is for both of iOS and Google Play app store revenues.
