Japanese Government Confirm Resorts Delay

As reported on Monday by the iGaming Post that Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is about to call a snap election and kick Integrated Resorts into the long grass for at least another year have been confirmed (see report here).

Senior Members of the ruling Government Party have now confirmed to the press there that no progress will be made on either the Integrated Resort Bill or the Gambling Addiction Bill till June next year at the earliest.

The prime Minister will open the extraordinary Diet session on the 28^th September and immediately dissolve parliament and call a General Election which is most likely to happen in October this year.

Shinzo Abe believes with the current climate he has an excellent chance of strengthening his position with current opposition parties unable to effect a proper opposition to the ruling government at this time.

Political observers in the region believe there is no danger of anti-gambling forces taking any further ground during the election, the only issue is the long delay this will cause International Operators getting bricks down to build the resorts.
