The Galaxy Entertainment Group, which is a multi-million dollar casino conglomerate based in Macau, is one of Hong Kong’s largest gaming services provider, running multiple casinos and gaming resorts across the world.
The proposed program, called the ‘GEG Japan-Macau Integrated Resort Management Mentorship Pilot Scheme,’ has been designed by the Galaxy Entertainment Group in conjunction with Galaxy Entertainment Group Foundation, Toyo University (Tokyo, Japan) and the University of Macau. Experts believe this new program may be better than what is already taught at the Japan Casino Academy and the Japan Casino School, which are renowned centers of learning in Japan.
The Japanese Government is receiving a fresh wave of gaming and casino applications in the country after the passing of the Integrated Resort (IR) Implementation Bill on July 20th, 2018, which legalizes the establishment of a full-fledged domestic casino market in the country.
Current trends indicate a bright future for the Japanese gaming industry. Experts estimate that Japan may have a robust casino resort market up and running by as early as 2025. The aim of the GEG Japan-Macau Integrated Resort Management course is to introduce Japanese students to the craft of resort and gaming management, keeping in mind the best international practices of the business. The course covers important aspects of the resort management trade, such as F&B, House Keeping, Branding, CSR, and service delivery.
The course will be spearheaded by the Faculty at the UMAC’s International Integrated Resort Management program, with the practical side being covered by the managerial level executives of the Galaxy Entertainment Group through month-long visits to reputed casino resorts in Macau.
The course is doubly beneficial for Japanese students, given its Japanese leanings. Galaxy Entertainment Group has hired Japan-born executive Ted Chan Ying Tat, who was a leading executive at the prestigious Melco Resorts and Entertainment Ltd, as the COO of the company’s Japan branch. Tat will be playing a crucial role in determining the course curriculum and structure.
Additionally, the Group has also partnered with Professor Jacky Yuk-chow, Dean (UCMA) and Professor of Finance at Banco Nacional Ultramarino to actively work with the Japanese students during their stint at Macau.
