Shinzo Abe the Japanese Prime Minister
The Japanese Government are planning to place the Integrated Resort Bill at the top of the priorities once the Ordinary Diet Session begins on January 22, according to reports. The Abe government has placed it in front of the National Budget along with the Gambling Addiction Countermeasures Bill with both then expected to be rubber stamped by March.
Although many International Operators were hoping for more it is now widely expected that only three Integrated Resort licenses will be granted meaning many large operators will lose out.
However there is opposition to the bill from left-of-center political parties but the overwhelming size of the ruling parties numbers means that the bill will pass without problems.
With some $20 to $30 billion a year in revenues expected from the Japanese market once all three resorts are running the stakes for all the operators to gain a license is huge especially as there seems little possibility that the Japanese government will expand on the licenses in the future.
