With COVID-19 still very much present in the US government officials are looking at ways to open up the economy that has been hit the hardest such as concerts, conferences and areas where large crowds gather.
All those are located in Las Vegas and the idea of bringing in a passport showing people have been vaccinated and allowed entry brings into question the privacy of the public towards their health records.
However local and federal authorities are concerned that allowing large groups to gather without some screening would see an explosion of the infection again. But on the other side without it public confidence on safety would see the entertainment and events industry struggle to recover from what has been an awful twelve months.
Not just the US but many countries are looking at the Israel model where they have brought in vaccine passports to allow their citizens entry to bars, clubs and gyms and those who have not had the vaccine excluded to outdoor areas.
But Israel is at 89% vaccinated and those choosing not to take the jab have a choice but that choice means no entry to crowded areas. That is not the case in other countries where at present the US is third in vaccinating its public at 29% in total.
Although casino operators seem not keen on the idea of enforcing a vaccine passport entry system it may be the only way to bring back confidence to its customers, but the danger of excluding large sections of the population could cause major descent.
