London Mayor Wants To Ban Gambling Advertising If Re-Elected

The current Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan has said that if he is re-elected in the May elections he will ban all gambling advertising on the London underground.
The Mayor has already banned all “junk food” advertising back in 2018 on the rail services and now plans to extend that to gambling if he wins.
Mr Khan said of the pledge: “I’ve already banned body-shaming advertisements and advertisements for foods high in fat, salt and sugar on the Transport for London (TfL) network because of their impact on the health of Londoners.”
“Given the devastating way gambling addiction can destroy lives and families, I’ll instruct TfL to bring forward plans to extend the ban to harmful gambling advertisements on the network.”
However with some 40% of outdoor advertising rail space helping to provide re-investment in the rail service critics fear that with the pandemic hurting the transport service already a drop in advertising revenues towards gambling would make it even harder to spend the promised funds needed to update the network.
