Macau Mass Market Grows As VIP Falters

The Macau Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau reported that the VIP gross gaming revenue (GGR) in the first quarter of 2021 rose by some 19.7% to $1.14 billion compared to the previous quarter.

However although the rise is welcome it is still down 38% when compared against the same quarter in 2020. The regulator for Macau gambling also recorded a rise in the most popular VIP game played in Macau baccarat, up to almost thirty five percent against the fourth quarter of 2020 but then down still against the same period on 2020.

Good news is that the mass market segment continues to grow and accounts for 61.4% of all gaming revenues, rising 2.1% from the previous quarter.
