The ‘Tropicana’ and ‘Flamingo’ casinos, both stationed on the world-famous Las Vegas strip, will each be subject to wholesale adjustments to their appearance, branding, and, in the case of the latter resort, potentially its primary function.

Las Vegas-based architects aren’t shy in demolishing buildings and starting from scratch, and this was the fate expected to meet the Flamingo Hotel & Casino resort. The property is currently under the governorship of Caesar’s Entertainment, with Bally’s Corp acting in the capacity of managing operator. The locally headquartered firm had planned to sell the 76-year-old building earlier in 2022 but failed to locate a prospective suitor. Given the likely cost of complete demolition and re-construction, it seems more feasible that Caesar’s will implement another modification program, giving the ageing structure yet another much-needed facelift.

Rhode Island-based Bally’s are also considering a radical overhaul of their recently acquired Tropicana resort, as they continue to seek new opportunities in the Las Vegas gaming space. As soon as the ink was dry on the deal to takeover building ownership from investment company Gaming and Leisure Properties, President George Papanier announced the casino group’s intention to commence upgrade work after an initial 18–24-month trading period.

However, the Tropicana could be poised for even greater re-constructive activity, with Bally’s Chief Executive Lee Fenton confirming the organization is contemplating plans to accommodate a stadium for MLB outfit Oakland Athletics on the land where the casino currently stands. Although discussions are in their formative stage, it’s believed that the Tropicana would be re-located within the wider project specification as opposed to being completely removed, given that Bally’s have already stated their desire to make the resort its ‘western flagship’.
