The site of the largest mass shooting in US history when a gunman opened fire killing 58 people and injuring nearly 900 at the Las Vegas Route 91 Harvest festival on October 1 2017 has been sold by MGM Resorts.

The 15-acre property on the Las Vegas Strip which since the shooting has remained un-used was sold to the Three Affiliated Tribes of the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation based in central North Dakota for an un-disclosed amount.

However 2 acres of the land last year at the northeast corner which was not part of the sale was given over by MGM as a permanent memorial to the victims of the massacre and will remain so says the gaming operator after consultation by survivors and local county officials.

MGM CEO and President Bill Hornbuckle announced the deal in a letter to all staff shortly after the New Year. The shooting took place from an elevated position while attendees were taking part in a concert held on the grounds.

The memorial site has still not been developed and locals believe it could still take several years until it is decided exactly how to remember the victims.

The Three Affiliated Tribes which has purchased the land have not made clear as of yet what the land is to be used for.
