New Jersey confident of November launch, maybe
The Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) in New Jersey says it is confident to meet the 26th November deadline for online gambling to be live in the state, although no official date for launch has been made and no confirmation that date will mean real money.
In a statement sent out Monday the 23rd September, regarding a request to operators for additional information to assess applications, the DGE said, “we can confirm that it has received a significant amount of additional materials from the casino licensees on behalf of their Internet gaming applicants,” spokeswoman Lisa Spengler said. “The Division remains committed to meeting the statutory deadline of November 26.”
The DGE Director David Rebuck has not confirmed the launch date but must offer a minimum of 45 days’ notice prior to online gambling going live. If the state cannot meet the deadline it can ask the New Jersey Casino Control Commission for an extension, however the length of the extension allowed is not clear at this time.
Still many observers in New Jersey close to the online gambling business still believe that the first quarter of 2014 will most likely be the launch date, not November.
