The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) is advancing its oversight of the online gaming sector by introducing dedicated player protection tools and updated compliance protocols. Designed to safeguard consumers and curb unauthorized operations, these initiatives reflect an intensified effort to maintain security, transparency, and operational integrity within the country’s growing iGaming market.
As digital gambling activity expands, regulatory authorities face the dual challenge of protecting players from fraudulent operators while ensuring licensed entities adhere to strict operational standards. PAGCOR’s updated strategy incorporates technology-driven verification mechanisms – including consumer-focused validation platforms and mobile application tools – that allow users to verify the licensing status of gaming providers before executing financial transactions.
“Illegal online gaming sites not only endanger players but also erode public trust and deprive the government of vital revenues,” stated PAGCOR Chairman and CEO Alejandro H. Tengco. He noted that transparent verification mechanisms serve as a foundational element within the regulatory framework, empowering consumers to make informed choices.
In addition to consumer verification tools, PAGCOR has tightened registration guidelines to prevent identity fraud and minor participation. Atty. Jessa Mariz Fernandez of PAGCOR’s licensing department confirmed that regulators have instituted mandatory Know-Your-Customer (KYC) requirements prior to initial monetary deposits. Under these protocols, registered users must present valid government-issued identification and undergo real-time authentication checks before accessing gaming services.
The regulatory updates also address digital advertising exposure and real-time threat monitoring. PAGCOR is implementing stricter controls on broadcast and digital promotions while deploying automated tools to detect and block unlicensed gaming domains in coordination with national telecommunications and cybercrime authorities.
