massachusetts-flagAs of now there is little to no actual regulation on online poker and DFS in the state of Massachusetts. The move to bring in one ‘omnibus regulation’ for both DFS as well as online poker will be a first in the States. The panel will be made up of officials, lawmakers, and experts from the respective industries.

There are only three states in the country that has any real regulation over online gambling. In Delaware, it is overseen by the state lottery and New Jersey and Nevada operate it under the gaming commission. The states put Online gaming and DFS as part of an internet betting market. Till now there have not been any real regulations in spite of the issue being brought up in 2011. There were four facilities being set up in the state, but the commission said that nothing can, or should be done till the brick and mortar people are first sorted out. The plan was to make sure that those companies were also involved the discussions, if there should be any.

The gaming commission appointed through vote, Chairman Stephen Crosby, as the head of the special panel that will be handling the regulation. The panel will study all the real money gambling activities and opportunities in the state. As far as DFS goes, there has been quite a bit of oversight on their part. Also, there is no income and revenue for the state from these cash transactions. The new regulations aim to change this situation. Called the ‘Internet Gambling Legislation’ this will bring in a sizable amount of revenue from online gambling and DFS. The bill to pass the legislation was put out in August this year, and the panel must meet by November and it was passed by Gov. Charlie Baker.
