Safety Protocols For G2E Las Vegas Announced

Reed Exhibitions the hosts and organisers of the G2E Las Vegas have this week released their safety protocols for the October 4-7 event at the Sands Expo Hall.

With Reed hugely impacted last year with both G2E Asia and Las Vegas both being cancelled the events company which is supported by the American Gaming Association (AGA) published safety protocols for both attendees and exhibitors with the following requirements:

Face Coverings to be worn by everyone while attending G2E, temperature checks to be carried out before entering the expo hall, with anyone with a temperature of 100.4 degrees not permitted, physical distancing of 2m between each person at all times, directional markings ensuring people do not walk backwards and into oncoming attendees and no hand shaking.

The announcement by the event company has been met with disappointment by regular attendees and some exhibitors that the whole experience will not be enjoyable for most and questions have been asked if the expo could happen with the restrictions in place.

Reed did say regarding the current released restrictions for G2E: The guidelines are based on information currently available regarding the behaviour and characteristics of the COVID-19 virus, public health information, and local or state guidelines with respect to large gatherings in any particular community. As more clarity with respect to these variables emerges, it is expected that these guidelines may need to be adjusted accordingly.

One US gaming consultant who did not want to be named told the iGaming Post: “G2E is a networking event for so many apart from being the biggest gaming exhibition in the US, how can you network and socialise at all given the current restrictions? The strength of G2E and other large expos is the size of them and the networking it offers, however with the current pandemic their size of event is their weakness, I and many of my colleagues will not be going this year.”

The iGaming Post has learnt that two major casino operators have announced that none of their employees are planning to attend expos this year due to lockdown measures impacting on their businesses and they are focussing on recovery before once again attending exhibitions again.
