sugarhousePlaySugarHouse.com, an online gambling site has been launched in New Jersey by SugarHouse’s majority owner. Rush Street Interactive, a component of Rush Street Gaming, and a majority owner of SugarHouse opened the site on Thursday.

New Jersey has become one of Atlantic City’s biggest rivals and the city’s Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) just released a promising report last week. The report stated that gamblers lost around $128 million this year, a 32.6% rise compared to last year.

The site is open to gamblers in New Jersey and operates under the internet gaming permit of Golden Nugget Atlantic City LLC. Online gambling has been legal in New Jersey since 2013. Rush Street Gaming Chief Executive, Greg Carlin, said the he was inspired from other online gambling site owners who claimed that online gambling helped their businesses grow further rather than bringing it down. This is because the websites provide a place for gamblers who are unable to go to casinos.

Rush Street opened a new office to help with the website and confirmed that they have around 5 employees currently working there with the numbers expected to grow.

PlaySugarHouse.com gives Rush Street the opportunity for expansion and hopefully, get into the Pennsylvania internet gambling scene. Pennsylvania lawmakers met earlier this year to discuss internet gambling but are yet to provide the budget for it. Carlin is “cautiously hopeful” that the industry will be given a chance as it is a good source to improve revenue but he refused to comment on the legislature.

The SugarHouse Casino is New Jersey just got a $164 million dollar expansion. With it’s location being close to the Ben Franklin bridge, Carlin hopes that more and more customers from New Jersey will visit the casino.
