Alvin Chau
According to local reports in Macau the founder of the largest junket operator in the region has been arrested under suspicion on money laundering and working with or being part of a criminal organisation.
The Macau Public Prosecutions Office say that officers have been working since early this year on the case and over the weekend eleven people have been arrested in connection to the case including Alvin Chau the founder and one of Sun City and one of the richest men in Macau.
Prosecutors say the case involves hundreds of millions of dollars in laundered illegal operation. Although it is too early to tell it seems Sun City could very well be implicated if the founder of the company has been detained.
In a statement from the prosecutors office it stated that those involved in gambling operations: “must rigorously abide by the national and local laws,” going on to say that the Macao authorities are pursuing a “zero tolerance” approach towards suspected breaches of the law.”
Although Chau has not been named as a suspect many news outlets are saying that others arrested work for the company and that Chau himself was told to surrender to the authorities or face stronger punishment.
