Trump Taj Mahal offer from Carl Icahn

Taj Mahal

As reported in last week’s iGaming Post billionaire Carl Icahn will be the one to decide if the Trump Taj Mahal will close or be saved. In a new development the property developer who already owns the Tropicana is willing to throw the casino a lifeline but there are certain criteria he need met before he will do so.

Firstly his lawyer said that Mr.Icahn will need to have the workers union give up on their pensions and health insurance, a state redevelopment agency provide $25 million to redevelop the casino and for the state to lower taxes for the Taj Mahal. His lawyer said if those requirements were met then his $100 million debt would be turned into equity and he would take ownership and keep the lights burning in the Taj Mahal.

Following the statement from Carl Icahn and his attorney the governor Chris Christie was asked if lowering taxes for the casinos would be an option, with the governor stating that it would not be an option for any or all the casinos in the state.

Where that leaves the Trump Taj Mahal is unclear with just 8 weeks of funds left to operate.
