UK Gambling Commission To Investigate Football Trading Site

The UK Gambling Commission has released a statement on new entry to the UK market Sorare.com that the commission says has launched without a UK license.
Sorare is a fantasy football trading game based around blockchain allowing customers to trade digital player cards to build their own football team and compete against other players in tournaments for prizes of thousands of pounds.
According to the site which comes from a French company but not clear whom says it has football icons such as Antoine Griezmann and Gerard Piqué along with retired footballer André Schürrle as investors in the company.
Such games are a worry for the UK Gambling Commission since the collapse of Football Index back in March with thousands of players losing money.
The Commission said on the new site: It has come to our attention the football-themed website, Sorare.com, is available to consumers in Great Britain.
Sorare.com is not licensed by the Gambling Commission.
This means that any activity completed on the site by consumers in Great Britain is outside of the gambling regulations that a licensed operator should comply with.
Consumers are being advised to consider this information when deciding whether or not to interact with the site.
The Gambling Commission is currently carrying out enquiries into the company to establish whether Sorare.com requires an operating licence or whether the services it provides do not constitute gambling.
We will not be commenting further pending the conclusion of those enquiries.
