William Hill the UK based bookmaker has signed a ground breaking deal with US sports guru Ted Leonsis that will see the first sportsbook based in a sporting stadium. The deal will see the sportsbook (the UK version of a bookmakers) situated in a sporting arena since the Supreme Court ruled in May 2018 that sports betting was again legal in the US.

The UK bookmaker has currently a presence in eight of the fourteen states that allow sports betting but by far this is a new game changer for the company and one the betting giant can be replicated in other states.

Leonsis owns seven pro-sport teams and said that this deal would “enhance the fan experience” and he would also keep the stadium open after sporting events for customers to bet on other sporting events elsewhere.

In a recent interview with the Times newspaper Leonsis said that he thought that “over the counter” bookmaking could become obsolete in the next ten years, likening it to cable versus Netflix. The billionaire businessman who own the Capital One Arena in Washington, has a large stake in sports data company Sportradar and DraftKings using his investment company Revolution Growth.
