Wyoming resurrect gambling idea

In Wyoming, it was confirmed that law makers have decided to take another look at attempting to establish a state wide gambling commission. 

The Legislature’s Join Travel, Recreation and Cultural Resources Committee had previously nixed the idea of a regulator body to oversee everything from poker games to sports gambling. However, on Monday morning, the issue was resurrected by the Legislator’s Management Council. 

At the moment, only the Pari-Mutuel Commission exists to offer any kind of regulation inside the gambling market and that only regulates the horse racing industry. The horse racing business accounts for roughly $12 million in state and local taxes each year.  

However, this could be about to change if the Committee choses to enact these recent suggestions. Republican Senator Ogden Driskill, of Devils Tower, submitted a motion to the Management Council, seeking that a task force consider expanding the commissions oversight. He argued that it was abhorrent that the state was not regulating gambling and “doing nothing is going to lead to bad results.” 

A similar proposal failed in the legislature earlier this year.
