£50 Daily Limit For Online Gamblers Called For By MPs

A joint cross party group of UK MPs are calling for a daily cap of £50 per day towards online gambling.

Opposition party MP, opposition party Labour’s Carolyn Harris, Conservative Iain Duncan Smith and SNP MP Ronnie Cowan are calling for online operators to offer a good will gesture of the recommended cap for online gamblers especially during the current COVID-19 lockdown.

The MP’s said that, “it would be a clear demonstration that the industry is willing to act responsibly and do what they can to protect society and peoples’ finances, at this dreadful time.”

Also the group of parliamentarians called for operators to ensure that gamblers did not open up several accounts to allow them to gamble more than the cap recommended.

The UK are in the midst of a complete gambling review by the government and UK Gambling Commission that will deliver new rules and recommendations in October this year.

Already rumoured changes will be a total ban on sports advertising, sponsorship of professional sports teams and social media advertising along with VIP programmes.

However the main worry for operators is a cap on gambling limits and the question is affordability, what one person can afford to lose is not the same for another. But to conduct major affordability checks on players operators are concerned that would drive gamblers to illegal unlicensed operators who would not be concerned with those checks.
