Ian Livingstone

They are the modern version of the Barclay brothers as many similarities exist between young and old but Ian and Richard Livingstone have online gaming and the Barclay brothers had the Ritz Club Casino among many other business interests.

However both sets of brothers are very private and avoid publicity and media, both have divested their businesses in various sectors but property and hotels are in both portfolios along with gambling.

But with the older brothers their involvement in gambling ended with the closure of the Ritz Club the Livingstone brothers are still very much involved as they are a major shareholder in Evolution Gaming, the online gambling company that only last year acquired NetEnt and Red Tiger Gaming.

With an 8.6% stake in evolution the brothers shares are valued at £2.1 billion, indeed over the past twelve months their value has shy rocketed by over 200%. They invested in Evolution over six years ago with a 16.5% share but with recent sales of their shares they remain with over 8% still.

Ian Livingstone sits on the Board at Evolution and with the brothers wealth estimated at around £5 billion with an extensive portfolio of properties in London along with hotels also but notably West Palm Beach Marriott hotel in Florida along with the Cliveden, the Buckinghamshire country house now a hotel.

However with some 40% of the wealth is derived by Evolution their investment in online gambling was a major move for them. But it started out with Ian, now 58, becoming an optometrist and Richard, 56, choosing a career as a chartered surveyor.

But the brothers are very close and are aligned perfectly when it comes to investments and avoid publicity as within their business it is not something that helps them and can only be seen ever as a negative.

Rumours are that since the brothers found huge success with Evolution they are looking at more technology start-ups maybe within the gaming industry once more.

One thing the Livingstone brothers want to avoid in their comparison to the Barclay brothers is they way internal family fighting drove the brothers apart, however those who know Ian and Richard say that will not happen to them.
