Sheldon Adelson is considering building a massive casino and convention resort in New York if the state legalizes Las Vegas-style casinos.
Adelson’s Las Vegas Sands Corp.’s interest in New York would appear to be a direct challenge to Genting, the firm that now operates the racino at Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens and that plans to build the nation’s largest convention center there, with the blessing of Gov. Cuomo.
“Our integrated resort properties have produced tremendous overall tourism and economic benefit in every location in which we operate, and under the right circumstances, we would be honored to bring our industry-leading, convention-based business model to New York,” said Sands spokesman Ron Reese.
“Our mix of hotel rooms, retail space, meeting and convention facilities, celebrity-chef restaurants, entertainment venues and more have redefined the hospitality industry, and there is no reason to believe it wouldn’t be a powerful tourism force in the Empire State.”
