The approval has been years in the making as OpenBet, a division of NYX, had been working with British Columbia’s gambling regulators since 2010. British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) approved a previous launch from NYX. OpenBet was launched as Canada’s first online casino in 2010. In 2012, sports betting was added to their offerings.
Earlier this year, NYX Gaming acquired OpenBet. The acquisition saw their year-on-year quarterly revenue rise by 230% as they generated CAD$35.2 million. Their third quarter reports are to be revealed on November 15. It will be interesting to see if company has grown steadily without the hype of the acquisition.
It is well known that British Columbia has one of the world’s most regulated gaming industries and the GPEB have been tasked with making sure that the businesses and customers are held to certain standards and in compliance with the British Columbia Gaming Control Act.
Online gaming has grown rapidly in the area and has increased growth of 24%. Overall, the BCLC has a combined net win of CAD$2.36bn in 2016. NYX now have the opportunity to make the growth last.
NYX Gaming chief executive, Matt Davey, commented after the approval and claimed that the expansion into one of the most regulated and rapidly growing marketing was an indicator of the great work that the 2 companies are doing together. Compliance and growth are the main objectives of the company, according to Davey.
