First Skill-based Slot Game Released in New Jersey

Atlantic City has turned to arcade gaming in order to entice a younger crowd. The cash-strapped gambling mecca is now offering a first person shooting game – similar to those on consoles like the PlayStation and Xbox – with the hopes of increasing their millennial crowd. New Jersey becomes the first state to allow these type of games, also known as video gaming machines.

 

The game, titled “Danger Arena”, is a first person shooting game where players have to shoot “bad guys” appearing on the screen, within 45-90 seconds, in order to win rewards. Like any other slots game, a random element of chance will be introduced into the game. Prizes range from $1 to $5000. This is the first game to combine video games, gambling and casinos, to create an engaging environment.

 

Danger Arena was created by GameCo Inc and was first released to Harrah’s last week. The state’s Division of Gaming Entertainment approved the game last month and more casinos including Caesars Atlantic City and Bally’s are expected to provide it. All 3 of the casinos are owned by Caesars Entertainment Group.

GameCo CEO, Blaine Graboyes, explained that the game has around ten thousand maps for players to explore. The algorithm and math model for the game are similar to blackjack and have been patented by the company. Graboyes explains that similar to other casino games like poker and blackjack where even the best players sometimes get unbeatable deals. He hopes that the game will revitalize the Atlantic City gaming scene as new generations get involved.

 

DGE director, David Rebuck, was pleased with the fact that the games debuted in Atlantic City instead of the rest of the nation. He noted that the release of the game was a combined effort between the DGE staff and GameCo.

 

Caesars Entertainment Regional President, Rick Mazer, was pleased with the release and expects the game to attract the millennial crowd. Noting that the current generation grew up on video games, Mazer claimed that it was time for the manufacturers to evolve from traditional games.
