Caesars Deal To Acquire William Hill All Cleared

The deal by Caesars Entertainment to acquire William Hill for £2.9 billion has been cleared by a UK court and is now expected to be finalised this week.

Two hedge funds argued that shareholders did not know all the facts of the deal when it was voted on overwhelmingly in November and so went to court to get another vote for shareholders, however that has now been removed for both GWM Asset Management and HBK Capital Management who opposed the initial vote.

Caesars has always stated that it is only interested in William Hills US business and will look to offload their European business, to this former bidder for William Hill Apollo Global Management would consider acquiring betting companies business in the UK and Europe.

However it is also understood that 888 Holdings and Betfred could bid for many of the UK and European assets if available including betting shops.

The only response to the court judgement from Caesars is that the company said it was “pleased by the decision” and it expected that William Hill shares would now be suspended by Thursday ahead of completion.
