Casino stadium decision looming

Who and where will Milton Keynes decide on their new casino?

A PROPOSED casino will receive its fate this week, after Peter Winkleman and the board of the Dons made a bid for the project to go ahead. Plans for the casino were submitted by three businesses around the town after Milton Keynes was awarded a ‘large’ casino licence back in 2005 under the new Gambling Act. Winkleman teamed up with Casino Austria International to strengthen their bid. The group currently runs 75 casinos in 18 different countries on five continents and the Dons front man described it as a “big, big player“. Its key shareholders even include the Austrian Mint.

The decision was meant to be met last week; this was delayed as councillors failed to reach an agreement. As well as Inter MK’s bid to build the casino at Stadium MK, there were submissions from the Leisure Plaza near Central Milton Keynes train station, and at Xscape, replacing City Limits.

In the meantime, Peter Winkleman continues to hold his breath.
