Hainan island just off mainland China
The Chinese government are considering the possibility of making the island of Hainan into an online gambling hub.
At present the proposals are only in draft version and have some way to go but the unprecedented move by Chinese authorities could mean the southernmost island off the Chinese coast could very well be a new online gambling zone.
Government agencies headed by Chinese President Xi Jinping are at present considering the possibility of allowing online gaming, sports betting and lottery. It could be one or all of the mentioned as the proposal is still in early formation and not for public view.
However even the consideration will have some excited as it is clear China realises now that it is missing out on a great opportunity with online gaming.
The thought is that Macau the only place Chinese nationals can gamble will remain the land based gambling capital but Hainan could become the online gaming capital.
Hainan has a population of 9 million and is the largest island under the control of China.
