According to the press release, David Chow of the famed Macau bigwig remarked that the local market is in urgent need to boost its competitive spirit to ensure faster progress in the gambling industry. He further added that if the government does not take adequate measure to revise the existing policies where the current gaming concessionaires continue to operate in the same way, the growth of the gaming industry will stay largely restricted to the six existing operators with no room for expansion.
He also told the reporters in Beijing that given the fact that the Macau market is large enough already, it would be a great idea to give out at least two or three more casino licenses to new gaming operators to bring their operations to the region. David Chow expressed his concerns while participating in the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference’s annual meeting at Beijing. The Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference is an advisory body that reports to the central government of China.
He further added that the local people of Macau should be given better opportunities to flourish in the region’s gaming industry. And while he is not pressuring the legislators in the region in any way, he strongly believes that it is the latter’s duty to ensure that the local people are provided with the right opportunities of growth and development.
Chow also pointed out that a major chunk of the gaming industry market in Macau has been captured by foreign gaming operators and the benefits of the industry revenues are being funneled out of the region into the hands of those that reside elsewhere. He strongly supports the idea of introducing more number of local operators into the gaming market to ensure that the revenues are able to help uplift Macau in a better way. Chow also expressed the Macau Legend’s enthusiasm in lobbying aggressively for a gaming license in Macau if the government decides to add on to the number of existing public concessionaires.
