Travel between Macau and Hong Kong has virtually ceased since the outbreak of the pandemic last year creating a huge drop in gaming revenues for Macau as some 30% of the total gross gaming revenue for Macau originates from traveller from Hong Kong.
However following the announcement the Macau government have yet to confirm the same as it says that Hong Kong need to show a 14 day free no infection rate before that happens.
The former British colony has made the move in the hope of boosting travellers from mainland China to the region in its “Come2HK Scheme”.
At present anyone travelling to or from Hong Kong must quarantine for 14 days, which has had a major impact on local tourism from China for the tiny colony.
