Japanese government wants tourism focus on casino resorts

The Japanese government have made it clear to all the casino operators hoping for a license to run a casino resort in Japan that tourism and facilities related to that must be a part of any resort plans.

Integrated resorts “will greatly benefit tourism, regional promotion and job creation” while helping make Japan an international travel destination, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said to reporters recently.

Full-on tourist facilities have to be part of any plans submitted once the process of selecting any operator including conference facilities and other leisure activities is a must.

Japan is looking at Singapore style operations rather than Las Vegas where in Singapore gambling is just a part of a wider range of tourist facilities rather than gambling being the main focus. Last year Singapore attracted over 65 million visitors and created over 20,000 jobs in the casino resorts there and that is what Japan is aiming for.
