MGM Resorts To Sue Route 91 Harvest Shooting Victims

Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino owned by MGM

This surely has to be the worst PR move ever by a casino resort company when MGM Resorts decided to sue the 1,000 victims of the mass shooting that left 58 people dead and 850 with injuries.

Last October a gun man used the Mandalay Bay hotel which is run by MGM to open fire on the Route 91 Harvest festival across the way from the hotel which is also owned by MGM.

However in an attempt to prevent victims of the shooting taking out lawsuits against MGM the company has decided to take the lead and sue them first. The action says that victims cannot hold MGM liable for the shootings as they took every possible action in hiring anti-terrorism measures.

In the lawsuit according to the publication the Review-Journal reports that MGM says they took every measure to protect customers: “Contemporary Services Corp., was protected from liability because its services had been certified by the Department of Homeland Security for “protecting against and responding to acts of mass injury and destruction.”

The law was passed by Congress in 2002 in relation to terrorism and mass shootings.

However the MGM is not looking for any financial return from victims it is a manoeuvre to protect itself again future lawsuits of victims.

A spokesperson for MGM said, “this is really best for the victims, years of drawn-out litigation and hearings are not in the best interest of victims, the community and those still healing.”

Ofcourse a company has to protect itself against costly litigation, but this really looks like a David & Goliath move and one that looks like harming victims. Surely this will cost MGM Resorts in visitor numbers with those patrons supporting victims of this terrible act.
