Miami Battleground For Gambling Expansion

The iGaming Post reported yesterday that Eric Trump wants to update the Florida gaming law so his family can develop a casino resort at their Miami Doral Golf Resort, now another son of a billionaire developer also wants to change the states gambling laws so they too can get in on the action.

Jeffrey Soffer, the son of Donald Soffer the billionaire real estate developer who wants to build a casino under their Fontainebleau Miami Beach brand, however Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber has already hired a legal team to stop this happening.

Local news company Local10 are quoting Dan Gelber saying: “What they are going to want to do apparently is take casino licenses, take gaming licenses, gambling licenses that exist right now in parimutuels — slot machines, card games, and things like that — and allow them to become portable.”

The Soffer family that operate the development company Turnberry Associates are keen to develop casinos in Miami and now with Trump also in the mix things are heating up in Florida as a new gambling bill is being drafted and could revealed on Monday 22^nd March.

Opposition to expanding gambling in Miami fear that this time governor Ron DeSantis and a large portion of lawmakers could make expanding gambling a reality.

However there are powerful forces again the expansion including Indian Tribal gaming groups and many point to the plans by Genting Group to develop a resort and failed and it looks like both parties are gearing up for a battle again to expand gambling in the area.
