Poker Nordica closed

THE online poker room, Poker Nordica, has shut for business. Players were advised on April 1st that they would no longer be accepting new players. This was no April Fool’s joke, unfortunately.

A player has posted up the following statement within the cardschat.com forum:

“After a period with lack of communication it has become obvious for pretty much everyone involved with them that not everything is right at Poker Nordica. Today, the site has communicated the fact that they had a lot to suffer at the hands of the stronger Merge operations and the current state of affairs was unmanageable as far as they were concerned.

The sudden departure of the brand manager of the operation, together with the CEO of the poker room has left the site in quite a tight spot.

Poker Nordica’s remaining staff is now in the process of assessing the site’s position, and they’re at crossroads, looking to determine in which direction the operation will move forward. Poker Nordica hasn’t paid some of its players since January, so the top priority currently is to settle those debts and to keep the operation alive.”

To further back this up, it was reported in mid-March, that the business was going silent, as players allegedly began receiving e-mails from the online poker room which announced the end of the business. Those who logged in to the software client this week were also greeted with the disappointing message. The site has also reportedly told their players that they have one month to withdraw their funds.

The loss of Poker Nordica is a shame for US poker players who have enjoyed small time action at this solid site. Being the second largest site on the Merge Network after Carbon Poker, Poker Nordica was considered a sound bet for US players who have enjoyed action at this site since it opened its doors in 2006.

A visit to the Poker Nordica site doesn’t indicate any particular drama and there is no public notice regarding its closure. It never became a major player like PokerStars or Full Tilt Poker, but it was a solid site, growing into the second largest on the Merge Gaming Network behind the network’s flagship site, Carbon Poker.
