Sportingbet joins forces with Foxwoods?

"“We are more than ready to take advantage of liberalisation in the industry."

SPORTINGBET plc is reportedly getting up close and personal with American land gambling group Foxwoods. The reports were first published in the London Evening Standard. Earlier this week, the group has made its final exemption from US prosecution payment to the DOJ. This is cleared so that the company didn’t face any prosecution.

Sportingbet has made no real secret about wanting to team up with Foxwoods. The latest reports suggest that the talks are in an advanced stage and possibly involve Sportingbet providing an online platform for intrastate poker & casino games over the coming months as part of a joint venture, awaiting on legislation factors of course.

Sportingbet’s George Hudson told the iGaming Post:

“Talks are on-going with Foxwoods in terms of establishing a potential JV but we can’t be more specific in terms of what actions we may undertake to establish ourselves within the US market. Suffice it to say, that it is an interesting time in the market and we are watching regulatory developments at a state level and product level closely.”

Andrew McIver, chief executive, said earlier this week that the final payment to ensure against US prosecution closed any risk which the company may have faced from its former activities in the US.
In reporting its annual results this week, CEO Brian Mattingley said: “We are more than ready to take advantage of liberalisation in the industry. We have a unique position in the US allowing the launch of a real money offering immediately as either federal or state based regulation is finalised & upon licensing by gaming authorities.”

Its competitor Rival 888.com is already set to take advantage of any legalisation in the US thanks to its partnership with land gaming giant Caesars International Entertainment & applications for Nevada licensing.
