Online gambling firm Bet365 has been fined for offering bets on a football match which contained players under 18 years of age, breaking Swedish gambling regulations.

Spelinspektionen, the Swedish gambling regulator found that Bet365 offered odds on a training match in March 2020 between Kronängs IF and Mariedals IK. The regulator said that 24 of the 34 players were aged under 18 and so breached chapter 8 section 2.2 of the gambling act banning betting on underage sporting events.

Bet365 brand in Sweden Hillside, argued that the match was now specifically an underage match and just happened to contain the majority of players under the allowed age.

But the regulator found that the company had breached the rules and was fined €98,000.
