Thailand warns over data breach

The Thai government has issued a warning to online gamblers within the country following an alleged breach of their personal data. According to local media, it relates to residents who have used operators based overseas.

ThaiCert conducted an investigation into this leaked data, which is said to have included the personal data of about 41 million people globally. However, the specialist team then discovered that 3.3 million of these people resided in Thailand.

ThaiCERT is trying to respond to this incident along with the Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA).

Both organizations are encouraging Thai residents to be more careful when they are contacted through social media, by phone, or by email. The aim of this warning is to discourage people from sharing their personal information in a bid to stop it falling into the wrong hands.

The central bank is also calling on residents to change the passwords for their online banking, just to be on the safe side. However, the ETFA has argued that it would be better for all affected cards to be cancelled.
