The old Hellinikon airport that will be transformed into a tourist location
The deadline for official bidders to be declared on Friday 4th October for the right to build a Integrated Resort on the former Hellenikon Airport just outside of Athens has passed and two remain in the running.
Those are Hard Rock International and Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment, all the other interested parties did not come through with official bids and now the two gaming companies will fight it out in bidding terms for the right to develop a casino the size of 1.2 hectares, have some 120 gaming tables and 1,200 slot machines along with building a 5 star hotel with conference and sport facilities.
It is expected that the winning bid will be announced AT THE END OF November although the process so far has seen long delays so that deadline might not be realistic.
Known as the “Hellenikon” it is part of a huge development of the old airport that will see an investment of some $9 billion in developing a tourist destination that is hoped will bring in hundred of thousands of visitors each year helping to boost the local and national economy.
