UK Gambling Review To Consider Sports Betting In Casinos

Could sports betting come to the UK like the US

The UK is at present under a gambling review by the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and is due to report back their findings in the autumn of this year.

However over recent weeks there have been rumours that the review will consider removing or raising the limit on affordability checks and now there are talks on bringing sports betting into UK casinos.

Many believe this latest review will change the way gambling operators will work for over 50 years, not since former Prime Minister Tony Blair passed laws allowing for major changes in advertising, sponsorship and a liberalisation of gambling will this new review be more important.

To this talk by those leading the review have looked at bringing in bookmakers to casino premises, for many years now land based casinos and retail bookmakers have seen declining revenues as digital takes more share of revenues.

Now laws may be changed to allow bookmakers to be a part of the casino industry, the huge expansion in the US for sports betting industry both within casinos and online has been looked at by UK lawmakers and the opportunity for the two in the UK to merge here is being considered seriously according to those close to the review.

There are benefits for both sides, the cost of retail leasing would be removed from expensive high street locations, it would boost traffic for casinos in daytime period and also reduce possible staff losses within casinos whom operate more staff than needed at present due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is understood the review is in its early stages but should the review recommend the move it would be the biggest change to the gambling industry in decades.
