Unlimited Wifi capacity by Twisted radio waves

A team of scientists demonstrated the technique in Venice by beaming signals across the lagoon.

They exploited a property of radio waves called “orbital angular momentum” to send two signals on the same frequency. They gave the two signals different amounts of orbital angular momentum to differentiate them.

According to the scientists, their technique in principle allows an infinite number of channels, potentially solving congestion problems in the electromagnetic spectrum.

The scientists said they mounted their public demonstration to allay doubts their technique was possible.

It’s exactly the same place that Galileo first demonstrated his telescope to the authorities in Venice, 400 years ago,” Professor Bo Thide of the Swedish Institute of Space Physics told the BBC.

The team first proposed the idea in theory in 2007.

“They were not convinced at all; they could see the moons of Jupiter but they said, ‘They must be inside the telescope, it can’t possibly be like that’,” said Prof Thide.

“To some extent we have felt the same (disbelief from the community), so we said, ‘Let’s do it, let’s demonstrate it for the public.'”

To create wave with different orbital angular momentum, the scientists split normal standard satellite dish-shaped transmitter along its radius and separated the two edges to create a corkscrew and twist the two signals different amounts.
