Camelot Announce Record Sales With Digital Rising Sharply

UK lottery operator Camelot has reported record sales in the last year rising by almost 6% as people took to tickets, scratchcards and online games during the pandemic.

Camelot said that because of the large rise in playing the company had managed to donate a total of £1.9 billion to good causes and £1.2 billion of that went to COVID-19 related causes, which is second only to the government in pandemic relief to the country.

Total revenues for 2020 which ended in March 2021 saw sales of lottery based products his £8.37 billion which is a rise of £469 million compared to 2019.

However Camelot’s EuroMillions draw only rose slightly as the company said sales in some partner companies were down on the previous year figures.

The company noted the large rise in digital customers as the pandemic swept through the UK last year, saying that 2.7 million new customers signed up for digital products.

Camelot Chief executive Nigel Railton, said regarding the online sales: “Our philosophy is that we encourage people to play on both online and in stores. We’ve got 45,000 retailers and they will continue to be the backbone of the National Lottery in the future.

“Retail will remain at the heart of the National Lottery because it’s really important to the local community.”
