Crown Resorts Never Investigated 2016 Arrests

The ongoing inquiry into the suitability of Crown Resorts to retain its Melbourne license continues and more startling events were uncovered on Thursday (10th June) at the hearing with the companies Chief Risk Officer saying the company has never held an investigation into the 19 staff being arrested by Chinese authorities in 2016.

Ann Siegers, the chief risk officer for Crown Resorts who joined the company in 2017 said when questioned: “A review could be undertaken now, but we’re four or five years after the fact.

Ms Siegers went on to say, “By the time I joined Crown many of the people and individuals were no longer in place and therefore it was too late.”

On the arrests themselves Ann Siegers said: “A large part of it was outside our control. It was about the Chinese actions and objectives… which I don’t know that we could control, there were failings in escalating some of the warnings to the risk management committee.”

According to Ms Siegers since she joined the company they had dramatically improved their risk assessment procedures.

The inquiry continues into next week.
