Delays opening till January
MGM has said that their new casino resort MGM Cotai will not open now until the end of January following damage caused by Typhoon Hato. The resort was due to open in the fourth quarter of this year but an announcement said that the company was now assessing the damage the typhoon had caused and the delay was inevitable.
With the delay and rising costs MGM said also that the final bill to develop the resort would be $3.3 billion.
“The company has since evaluated the situation and developed a revised schedule for completing repair works and processing governmental inspections necessary for obtaining relevant licenses to operate MGM Cotai,” said the company.
“As a result, MGM COTAI will be slightly delayed from our previous expected opening in the fourth quarter of 2017, and is now expected to open on January 29, 2018.”
