Nevada April figures decline with poker falling over 14 percent

Overall figures decline but Strip fairs better

Nevada casinos suffered a 0.3% decline in revenues for April compared to the same period in 2013 according to the Nevada Gaming Control Board figures released recently.

Overall casinos in the state won $852 million in the month, however the Las Vegas Strip which house the megaresorts did better with an increase in revenues from $448.6 million in April 2013 to $462.9 million

Much of that increase was helped by Baccarat winnings on the Strip which were at $90.4 million representing a rise of $25.8 million or 40%, said Mike Lawton, senior control board analyst.

“Baccarat represents 20 percent of the Strip’s win for the month” and a quarter of gambling revenues for the fiscal year that began July 1, Lawton said.

Downtown Las Vegas casinos reported $44 million in gambling revenue, a decline of 2.5%, while in northern Nevada a drop of 1.5% to revenues of $44.5 million was suffered.

The total amount of taxes collected for the state totalled $47.9 million, up 1.4% from last year.

There was no good news for online poker which is only offered by three companies in Nevada, total revenues for April were at $792,000 a 14.5% drop from March. In the 11 months online poker has been available in Nevada the game has generated only $10.2 million in casino winnings.
