Daniel Tzvetkoff likely to avoid any more jail time
Online gambling super grass Daniel Tzvetkoff, the one-time high flying owner of financial processing company Intabill, who was worth over $82 million is pleading with a New York judge so to avoid a further 6 to 12 months in prison.
Tzvetkoff was accused by three of the major online poker companies back in 2009 of stealing $100 million from them in processing transactions, PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker and Absolute Poker all said Tzvetkoff siphoned off millions for his own personal use.
However then in 2010 while in a casino in Las Vegas Tzvetkoff was arrested by US federal agents in relation to illegally processing of more than $US1 billion to online gambling firms that ignored US rulings on internet gambling in the country.
But some 12 months later Tzvetkoff was out of prison when he offered over 90,000 documents to law enforcement officials, that action led to the infamous Black Friday in 2011 when the US Department of Justice suddenly shut down the American operations of PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker and Absolute Poker.
His lawyer, Robert Goldstein, said Tzvetkoff would probably avoid further jail time and be sentenced to the four months he has already served in a Brooklyn prison after Isai Scheinberg and Paul Tate of PokerStars, Raymond Bitar and Nelson Burtnick of Full Tilt Poker, and Scott Tom and Brent Beckley of Absolute Poker were charged with bank fraud, money laundering and illegal gambling offences.
“For a first-time offender who has never before experienced prison, four-plus months inside the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn constitutes a harsh and significant punishment,’’ Goldstein wrote in his sentencing submission.
“The reality is that even one day in those type of conditions can be exceedingly harsh punishment for a first-time offender like Mr Tzvetkoff.’’
It is reported that Tzvetkoff lives and works back in his native Australia and has funneled away several millions still of his business earnings that authorities failed to find.
In the end Tzvetkoff pleaded guilty to bank fraud and money-laundering charges involving all three companies, but seeing any prison time for it again seems highly unlikely.
