Pennsylvania to hold meeting into online gambling

Pennsylvania will hold a hearing on Tuesday 3rd June to review the recent gaming study that covered the benefits of the state entering the online gambling sector.

The Senate Community, Economic & Recreational Development Committee will discuss the potential online gambling which the study showed could generate upwards of $300 million per year for state coffers should Pennsylvania legalise online gambling.

Prompted by the study named “The Current Condition and Future Viability of Casino Gaming in Pennsylvania” released in May which showed that with a population of 12.7 million and the 6th largest state by population the benefits of the huge injection of taxes derived from online gambling are very appealing to state legislators.

A multitude of experts from the casino industry, regulators, social impact and pro and anti lobbyist’s are expected to give their thoughts on whether entering online gambling will be beneficial for Pennsylvania.

The agenda for the meeting says the purpose of the hearing is to consider the current state and potential for growth of the Pennsylvania casino gaming industry in an increasingly competitive atmosphere, with a particular regard for the potential impact of new revenue sources such as online gaming.

Many observers believe the meeting will be a key indicator on whether Pennsylvania moves forward with legislation to legalise online gambling in the future.
